Verona: following the footsteps of Dante Alighieri

A journey to discover an extremely suggestive Verona: the Verona of Dante Alighieri. In this city there are still important traces of his life, places where Dante lived and took inspiration to finish the Divine Comedy, places that today are represented by ancient buildings, castles, squares, museums and libraries.

An itinerary through history, art, food and wine to discover the places lived by the great poet.

Itinerary

DAY 1 - Verona & cooking class

Arrival in Verona, check-in at the hotel and accommodation. In the afternoon walking tour with guide among the places and monuments that recall Dante’s presence in the Scaligera city.

After being exiled from Florence, Dante found refuge in Verona at the court of the Della Scala family. Here he found inspiration and wrote a good part of the Divine Comedy, remaining a guest for about 7 years.

Following, cooking class with menu Dantesque. The experience will take place in a welcoming Italian kitchen in the heart of Verona where you will prepare medieval dishes and enjoy them in good company!

Overnight in Verona.

DAY 2 - montorio: e-bike & outdoor painting

Breakfast at the hotel. Day out of town walking with Dante among the “divine” waters of Montorio: a small Veronese district 5 km from the center where Dante was welcomed in the Palazzo delle Logge, the summer residence of the Scaligeri family. Here the precious springs and the streams immersed in the green inspired the poet Dante.

Leaving by your own from the historic center of Verona, you will cycle through the countryside, vineyards and clear waters. Once you arrive in Piazza Buccari, stop to start by foot the multimedia path dedicated to Dante, divided into 17 stages that winds through the springs. The route takes the visitor on a journey through history with intense and unique emotions.

Packed lunch for eating and time to reach the walls of the medieval castle of Montorio by e-bike which will be the setting for an “en plein air” painting lesson! You will take inspiration from the beauty of Montorio as Dante did, you will draw and paint in the open air together with a painter and master of art.

Return to Verona by e-bike.

Overnight in Verona.

DAY 3 - Valpolicella wine tasting

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure to visit the Tenuta Serego Alighieri, in the heart of Valpolicella, where even today the counts Serego Alighieri (direct descendants of Dante) produce the famous Amarone and other local wines.

The enchanting estate, which already had a reputation for the excellence of its vineyards, was purchased in 1353 by Pietro Alighieri, son of the poet Dante, who had followed his father during his exile in Verona; Dante’s legacy in Verona goes beyond the places and characters he frequented. Guided tour and wine tasting.

Free afternoon. You can visit the most emblematic places of the Valpolicella hills such as San Giorgio Ingannapoltron, a small medieval village perched on a hill among vineyards and olive groves overlooking the splendid Lake Garda.
